Mikati Denounces Israeli Assault on Nabatieh Civilians and Global Indifference

NABATIEH: Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday strongly criticized a recent Israeli attack targeting civilians in Nabatieh, which also disrupted a local municipal council meeting. Mikati voiced his disapproval of the global community's lack of response to what he referred to as ongoing aggressions by Israeli forces. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Mikati expressed his dismay over the international community's silence and questioned the effectiveness of seeking assistance from the United Nations Security Council. He highlighted the severity of the situation facing the Lebanese people and pondered the utility of demanding a ceasefire through international bodies given their current unresponsiveness. "If all the world's states are incapable of curbing an unspeakable hostility against the Lebanese people, is it still useful to resort to the Security Council to demand a ceasefire?" Mikati stated, indicating a significant frustration with the international diplomatic mechanisms supposed ly designed to maintain peace and security. The incident in Nabatieh marks a continuation of tensions in the region, with Lebanon frequently citing violations of its sovereignty and security.
