Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon Urges Protection of Civilians Amid Escalating Airstrikes

Nabatieh: The Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, has issued a strong call for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in Lebanon, highlighting the severe impacts of ongoing Israeli airstrikes across the country. His statement comes in the wake of a recent devastating strike in Nabatieh, which resulted in multiple civilian casualties. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Riza detailed the extensive damage caused by the airstrikes, which have destroyed health care facilities, mosques, historical markets, residential complexes, and government buildings. He emphasized the increasing vulnerability of displaced families who continue to be at risk despite relocating to safer areas. The crisis reached a new peak this morning with a deadly attack during a crisis meeting at the municipality of Nabatieh. This strike claimed the lives of several civilians and local authorities, including Ahmad, Sadeq, Mohammed, and Qassem. These individuals were part of a relief team collaborating with the UN and other humanitarian partners for over a year. Riza expressed profound sorrow for the lives lost in today's attack and the ongoing conflict, which has persisted for 373 days. He called for immediate adherence to International Humanitarian Law, stressing that civilians must have the ability to seek safety, humanitarian aid must be delivered without hindrance, and humanitarian workers must perform their duties without fear of being targeted. In his plea, Riza extended his condolences to the families of all those affected by today's events and the prolonged hostilities, underscoring the urgency of halting the conflict.
