Riyadh: The Transport General Authority (TGA) stressed the importance of transporters in the cargo sector to adhere to approved technical and regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of drivers and road users and to enhance the quality of services in this vital sector. The authority stressed the need to check the readiness of trucks before loading cargo, including the functionality of front and rear lights, the proper alignment of the truck body, the absence of cracks in mirrors, as well as inspecting the braking system and verifying the safety of electrical connections.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority noted that compliance with operational requirements is essential for the safe and efficient transportation of goods. Transporters must ensure that the type of cargo is not prohibited, that it is unloaded at designated locations, properly secured on the truck, and stored under suitable conditions when necessary. Trucks must also be appropriate for the weight of the cargo according to approved regulations.
To regulate the land transport sector and enhance road safety, TGA underscored the importance of adhering to the permitted working hours for truck drivers during Ramadan. The maximum allowed driving time is nine hours daily, extendable to 10 hours twice a week, with a weekly driving limit of 56 hours. Drivers must take regular rest periods, including a 45-minute break after every four and a half hours of driving, 11 hours of rest within 24 hours, and 48 hours of weekly rest to ensure efficient and safe transport operations.
The authority also highlighted that the "Naql" (transit) e-document, issued through the LOGISTI platform, serves as a primary document confirming the receipt of goods by the transporter in their stated condition for delivery to the consignee in the same condition. The document enhances transparency in transportation operations, providing immediate electronic access to truck information and condition. It also safeguards the rights and responsibilities of all participating parties, improves service quality, and enhances safety standards while enhancing the business environment through technical integration with relevant entities.
The authority urged all beneficiaries and transport drivers to report any violations in the cargo transportation sector through official channels or the unified number 19929. It reiterated that compliance with regulatory requirements by transporters enhances road safety, boosts the efficiency of land transportation in the Kingdom, and contributes to the development of the logistic sector, supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to enhance the efficiency of the transportation and logistic services sector.
