Origins: Origins, Saudi Arabia's first-ever fine art and luxury auction, achieved spectacular success at the conclusion of a week-long celebration of art, luxury, and culture, presented by Sotheby's in collaboration with Diriyah Company.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the live auction attracted bids from collectors across 45 countries, generating sales exceeding $17 million. A significant portion of the lots, specifically a third, were acquired by buyers within the Kingdom.
The event drew over 250 attendees to Bujairi Terrace, where all four works by Saudi artists surpassed their estimates, collectively reaching $1.1 million. This success underscores the growing interest in and value of Saudi art on the international stage.
Prior to the auction, a free public exhibition hosted by Sotheby's from February 1 to 8 drew nearly 2,500 visitors. The exhibition was complemented by daily panel discussions featuring leading figures from the art and culture sectors, which attracted over 700 attendees.
Diriyah Company Group CEO Jerry Inzerillo commented on the significance of the event, stating: "The decision by Sotheby's, one of the most prestigious auction houses in the world, to host Saudi Arabia's first international art auction in Diriyah has reinforced our commitment to becoming a global hub for arts and culture at the City of Earth."
