Riyadh: The second edition of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy Initiative Competition began yesterday as part of the Riyadh International Book Fair and will run until October 4. The event aims to celebrate and promote the rich tradition of Arabic calligraphy, an art form deeply embedded in Saudi cultural identity and the broader Arab and Islamic heritage.
According to Saudi Press Agency, nine calligraphers from seven countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Oman, Turkey, and Indonesia, are participating in the competition. Their works will be assessed by a specialized jury, ensuring that the highest standards of the art form are upheld.
The competition is a significant effort under the initiative to bolster and showcase Arabic calligraphy on both local and international platforms. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to enhance cultural awareness and appreciation across the globe while preserving and promoting the kingdom's cultural heritage.
