Saudi Arabia Observes International Epilepsy Day to Raise Awareness, Support Patients

Jeddah: International Epilepsy Day, observed annually on February 10, is recognized by countries around the globe, including Saudi Arabia, as an opportunity to raise awareness about epilepsy, educate the public about the disorder, provide treatment options, support patients and their families, and enhance medical services through prevention and early diagnosis.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Ministry of Health, on its official website, reported that epilepsy affects approximately 65 million people worldwide, with 80% living in low- and middle-income countries. Studies indicate that 70% of individuals with epilepsy can control seizures and lead normal lives with appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

King Abdulaziz Hospital in Jeddah held awareness activities today to mark the day at three prominent locations in the city, attracting a strong turnout of visitors who learned about the causes, symptoms, treatment options, and prevention strategies for epilepsy. Specialists also discussed epilepsy to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and ongoing care for patients, emphasizing the need to spread knowledge and offer psychosocial support to individuals with epilepsy and their families.
