Saudi Arabia Marks World Veterinary Day to Highlight Veterinary Medicine’s Role in Protecting Public Health

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrated World Veterinary Day, observed annually on the last Saturday of April to highlight the vital roles veterinarians play in protecting livestock, promoting public health, and ensuring food safety. According to Saudi Press Agency, the celebration was held during an event organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, in cooperation with the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (WEQAA Center). The event was attended by Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture for Fisheries and Livestock Wealth Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Shaikhi, and CEO of WEQAA Center Eng. Ayman bin Saad Al-Ghamdi, along with a number of specialists and experts in veterinary medicine and animal health. On this occasion, Dr. Al-Shaikhi emphasized in his speech the vital role of the veterinary profession in enhancing food and health security by monitoring zoonotic diseases and combating epidemics to en sure the quality of animal products. He also highlighted its contribution to maintaining environmental balance and stressed the need to support national veterinary personnel through specialized training programs and infrastructure development, in line with achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in sustainability, animal welfare, and health security.
