Riyadh: The Kingdom, represented by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA), today hosted the third meeting of the UN Working Group on Policy and Legal Frameworks for Geospatial Information Management. The meeting will run for three days. According to Saudi Press Agency, the working group is one of the teams established under the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). It is tasked with raising legal awareness on geospatial issues, emphasizing the importance of policies and legal frameworks for geospatial information management to advance development and innovation, formulating such policies and frameworks, and setting out basic rules, principles, and guidelines for geospatial policies. The group includes representatives from 20 countries: Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Australia, Belgium, India, Italy, Canada, Qatar, Bahrain, Finland, Mexico, Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia, Poland, the UAE, Kuwait, and South Africa. GEOSA, under its mandate, is responsible for regulating the surveying, geospatial information, and imaging sector in the Kingdom. Its responsibilities include coordination and cooperation with counterparts in other countries and international organizations related to the sector, as well as representing the Kingdom at regional and international levels.
