IMCTC Launches ‘Peace Journalists’ Program in Mal©

Mal©: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) launched its specialized program titled 'Analysis of Extremist Discourse and Hate Speech in Digital Media: Smart Countering Tools and Technologies' in Mal©, the capital of the Maldives today. The program brings together 30 trainees representing various media and academic institutions in the Maldives as part of IMCTC's strategic media initiatives aimed at building the capacity of media professionals and enhancing their skills in countering extremism while promoting moderation and tolerance. The launch was attended by Deputy Minister of Defense Fathimath Mizna Ali and several civilian and military officials.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the program aims to equip journalists and media practitioners with the skills to analyze digital content, understand the nature of extremist and hate speech in digital environments, and address it using professional, intelligent methods based on accurate content analysis, source tracing, and modern digital verification tools. It also seeks to raise awareness of the psychological and social impacts of extremist discourse while enhancing participants' ability to produce responsible analytical reports that elevate media quality and contribute to intellectual and social security.

The training program focuses on several integrated themes, including understanding the structure and motives of extremist and hate speech, examining digital and technical tools used in media analysis, and introducing smart confrontation techniques and best practices to curb hate speech online through awareness campaigns and impactful media initiatives.

The initiative targets journalists, academics, and professionals across civil and media sectors to boost their professional capacity in addressing digital extremism and fostering a responsible, positive media discourse.
