GCC Secretary-General: High UN E-Government Rating Embodies Digital Integration

Kuwait city: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi stated that the achievement of all GCC countries of a "Very High" rating in the 2024 United Nations E-Government Development Index is a significant accomplishment that embodies the integration of GCC digital visions and policies at the regional and international levels.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this statement came during the secretary-general's speech at the 9th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Digital Government, held today, Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in the State of Kuwait. The meeting was chaired by Minister of State for Communications Affairs of Kuwait Omar Saud Al Omar, President of the current session, and attended by the ministers responsible for digital government in the GCC states.

In his speech, Albudaiwi expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah for hosting the meeting and for his continuous support for the joint GCC work process. He also praised the sincere efforts made by the relevant authorities in the State of Kuwait in developing the digital sector and enhancing GCC cooperation in this field.

He mentioned that the GCC has made significant strides in implementing joint digital transformation projects, pointing to the most prominent achievements of the past year. These include the adoption of the Digital Government Guiding Strategy (2024-2030), the launch of the Unified Framework for Digital Access, the annual organization of the GCC Digital Government Award, and participation in international forums such as the IGF, LEAP Conference, and GITEX Exhibition.

He explained that the meeting's agenda includes discussing the project to prepare the first unified GCC strategy for artificial intelligence and adopting two general frameworks for AI applications in public services, climate prediction, and disaster management, which will enhance the position of the GCC states as a leading center for digital innovation.

The secretary-general concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing joint work to develop the GCC's digital infrastructure and enhance the integration of systems and services due to its direct impact on the well-being of GCC citizens and the sustainability of economic development.
