Arabic Calligraphy Shines at Riyadh Book Fair

Riyadh: Arabic calligraphy is one of the most prominent features of cultural identity at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025, embodying the ambitious vision to promote the Arabic language and celebrate its aesthetics. More than a decorative art, calligraphy is a profound cultural message that fuses authenticity and renewal, and its significance is reflected in the spaces dedicated to it at the fair, which has become a global platform for Arab creativity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the fair dedicated large spaces to calligraphy, hosting specialized pavilions, interactive workshops, and live performances by numerous local and international artists. These displays incorporated various scripts-including the elegant Thuluth, sophisticated Diwani, and readable Naskh-across murals and book designs, demonstrating a powerful fusion of authenticity and contemporary technology.

The guest of honor, Uzbekistan, notably showcased a unique display of the Holy Quran by calligrapher Habibullah Salih, attracting significant visitor attention.

Attendees regarded the exhibit not merely as a visual art show but as a cultural message that reinforced national belonging and pride. Calligraphers utilize both traditional tools, such as reed pens and natural inks, and modern digital devices. The integration of traditional artistry with modern digital platforms marks a qualitative shift, affirming the Kingdom's commitment to empowering the Arabic language and enhancing its global cultural presence.
