RIYADH - Saudi mixed martial arts (MMA) player Malik Basahel has won a silver medal at the 2023 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championships, which took place in Tirana, Albania, from November 20 to 25.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Basahel secured the silver medal in a match against Tajik athlete Loyg Akramov in the under 56.7 kg category, with the decision made by the judges. This achievement marks Basahel's first international appearance with the national team, and he expressed his joy at winning the first silver medal for Saudi Arabia in this competition. He also thanked the Saudi Mixed Martial Arts Federation (SMMAF) for its support during the training camp and preparations for the global tournament.

The pavilion emphasizes the ministry's commitment to sustainability, showcased by hosting major sports events like the Formula 1 race and Extreme E race, and highlights the development of sports events in the Kingdom. It also focuses on women's participation in sports and the strategies for its development, featuring a unified digital platform for sports clubs. With over 80 international sports events already hosted and more than 2.6 million attendees, the Kingdom is planning to organize over 33 sports events until the end of 2024 and is preparing to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027, the Asian Winter Games (Trojena 2029), and the Asian Games 2034.
