Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Jeddah Islamic Port has achieved a historic milestone in October 2023, handling a record 511,348 TEUs, as stated in a press release. This figure sets a new monthly record for the port, emphasizing its critical role in regional and global trade.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this achievement reflects the port's importance in transshipment trade, container handling, and goods movement along the strategic Red Sea coast. The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has been instrumental in enhancing the maritime sector's operational efficiency and container throughput in Saudi Arabia, aligning with the national strategy to establish the Kingdom as a global logistics hub.
This record surpasses the previous high set in July 2023, when the port handled 491,197 standard containers. The success of Jeddah Islamic Port is attributed to the collaboration between Mawani and its strategic partners, which includes infrastructure enhancements and modernization initiatives. These efforts aim to position the port among the world's top 10 ports.
Additionally, Jeddah Islamic Port has been recognized internationally, receiving several awards including the Advanced Port Infrastructure Award at Landmarks of Logistics 2023, the Port of the Year at the UAE's Logistics and Transport Awards in 2023, and the Best Port award at the International Green Shipping Summit Awards in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2022.
