The adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) will contribute to increasing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's gross domestic product (GDP), according to a recent economic report released by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with Accenture. The report, unveiled this week during the third edition of the Global AI Summit under the title "Opportunities of Generative AI in Saudi Arabia," provided an overview of the potential of generative AI to boost productivity, create new job opportunities, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the Kingdom's economy. The report also highlighted the role of this technology in achieving economic diversification goals and fostering innovation in the Kingdom, indicating that these innovative technologies could reduce 37% of routine working hours across various professions, allowing workers to spend more time on more critical tasks. The research methodology included an analysis of professional data collected from national statistical offices and databases across 19 countries, with the aim of comparing the data with the current situation in the Kingdom. This was conducted in parallel with an assessment of language-based tasks to calculate the work productivity metric used to determine efficiency rates. The research also utilized academic materials and statistical models to predict future behavior, aiming to reveal the impact of generative AI on efficiency across various sectors to enhance these efficiencies. The report indicated that the Kingdom is working to leverage the full potential of generative AI to accelerate its innovation pace - an aspect that has already been achieved through significant steps taken towards shaping a more sustainable future using generative AI. It called for adopting a strategic approach to fully capitalize on the potential of generative AI in the Kingdom. It also recommended implementing a comprehensive plan with results-oriented steps, outlining the essential elements needed to build a robust and responsible generative AI ecosystem, from technology and talent to sustainability and accountability. The report also shed light on the critical steps that the Kingdom can take to benefit from generative AI which include prioritizing high-impact use cases and applications that deliver economic and societal benefits, reshaping skills and work methods, and aligning work processes with generative AI capabilities. At the same time, it is essential to foster a culture that embraces and nurtures continuous learning and innovation, it said. The report presented a detailed analysis and insights on the potential impact of generative AI on the Kingdom's economy and workforce.
